Back to Life

It’s been a couple of days since we have been home from Mexico and I am so thankful to the Lord for His faithful work through us and for the way that He is shaping and forming me and our students.

I find such great joy in the time I get to spend serving and worshiping alongside our students.  I love watching them cry out to God, read His Word back to Him, laugh together, cry together, and just being available to Him.  I am certainly confident that God will raise up workers for the harvest from this youth group to SHAKE THE NATIONS FOR HIS GREAT GLORY!

I wanted to just write on here and thank the parents for allowing your students to go on this trip and entrusting their care to me.  As Matthew gets older, I can only begin to imagine what it feels like to begin releasing your child into the Lord’s hands for whatever He pleases.  That is my constant prayer for my little boy and my family, that whatever the cost, whatever the circumstance, or whatever the situation is that we would be all about Him and His Kingdom.  So thank you.  Thank you for taking that step of faith and giving your child to God for His purposes.  I am praying that you will continually be living out that prayer as the Lord radically rocks and shapes the heart of your student.  During our time in Mexico, we prayed Psalm 25:4-5 on a consistent basis.  I hope that this will be the prayer of your heart as well.  This is what it says:

“Make me know Your ways, O Lord;

Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation;

For you I wait all the day.”

It can’t be anymore simple and straightforward than that.  It is with great expectation and anticipation that I look forward to eternity to see the fruit of these students faithful abiding and subsequent work of God through them and how it affected the world!

One last thing, thanks to my incredible and beautiful wife for keeping up this blog while we were away.  She is a true picture of Jesus and I am 100% certain I married way out of my league! I hope you enjoyed the updates!

All His, Adam

Saturday Night

Saturday

I got a call from Adam this morning. Apparently they didn’t finish their time with the youth group until midnight last night! He said it was a great time. It was refreshing for our team to hear how their God was the same God that these Mexican people worship. It was a good time of fellowship and worship for the two groups. Adam’s teaching went well.

Adam asked for prayer for some bad bellies- nothing abnormal for being in Mexico for 10 days- but still hard to deal with sometimes. The team is also figuring out how to hang out with people of their own age without a common language. It is always easier with children who adore you- but peers is harder. Be praying for those relationships. Be praying for energy as the team has been working hard this whole time and as it draws to a close they are getting worn out.  Pray for a good strong finish in HIS strength.

I’m getting excited for Adam to get home! I’m sure you are excited to see your family members again! I’m also preparing myself for the amount of nasty laundry that is headed my way! Some of you that have multiple people on the trip… I’m sorry. :)

Friday

I got a few texts from Adam while they were in town today. From what I see on facebook- some other people had some communication with home. Hopefully you were one of those people! :) I’m not sure what time the discipleship thing will be over tonight and I need to head to bed. Sorry for no update. I will post something in the morning if he calls while I’m asleep. Hope you enjoy your weekend. Only a few more days…

Thursday Update

I talked to Adam for just a couple of minutes tonight as he was waiting for the dinner bell to ring.

Construction this morning go rained out, but the team had a great time of prayer instead. The time with the kids this afternoon went well. Tonight after dinner they are showing the movie. Pray for adults to come!

Tomorrow the team is going to San Miguel and then in the afternoon the discipleship conference starts with the youth group from another town. Adam is teaching and Loriell is translating. Be praying for both of them. It is hard to speak with a translator and it is hard to translate for someone that is not used to that! Be praying that this time with the youth group will deepen their understanding of the gospel- and take their personal relationships with God to the next level.

Sorry there are not more specifics-but we only talked for a few minutes and then Matthew ran around with the phone laughing for a while. Til tomorrow…

Wednesday Happenings

Adam called late tonight and said that they have a “tired tired group.”

This morning they worked on the construction at the camp again. There is a group that has been working on digging up cement pillars that are in the middle of the camp. They have been pretty discouraged by the lack of progress- which I forgot to tell you about yesterday. But today they got one of the pillars out! They were very excited and have the other one to work on tomorrow. Pray that they would have energy and drive to finish the job. One group started the sidewalks today. Another group is going to be working on a new roof for the girls dorm.

About 50 kids came to camp again today. Adam said it was a really good day and the kids seemed to have lots of fun. Our team taught the kids how to say “You are crazy!” So they were running around saying that all day. I’m sure the groups that follow ours this summer will be very pleased with that! Haha.

This afternoon/evening the team went into Guanajuato to do some shopping and eat dinner. They had fajitas at a restaurant there. Adam said to pray that the Mexican food settles well. :) Everyone did some shopping and some of the kids found a soccer game to watch. It was USA vs. Panama. USA won 1-0. Just thought I’d share that incase anyone was interested. :)

After shopping and dinner the group rode a trolley up a steep mountain and saw a monument of a guy that helped gain independence for Mexico- or something like that. As far as I understood what Adam said. They were supposed to go to a mine tonight but the bus couldn’t make it up the mountain so they went to this monument instead. The group had to walk back down the mountain- and Adam said everyone was pretty exhausted by that point. They were on the bus on the way home when he called me.

Tomorrow they have more construction to do like I shared earlier. Pray for all their projects and that they would work hard even though they are getting worn out. The kids will come again tomorrow afternoon. The team has invited the families back for the regular Jesus Film tomorrow night. Apparently there has never been much success in getting adults to come to the camp grounds. So if no adults come then they will show a Veggie Tales in Spanish. We need to be praying that this time would be different and the adults would come make those relationships with the camp, and hear the good news of the Gospel. PRAY PRAY PRAY!

I am very tired and waited up to get Adam’s call so now I am going to crawl into bed. I hope everyone had a great Wednesday and enjoyed the little treat of pictures that Adam sent. 5 days until we see the team again. We are half way there…

Pictures from Wednesday

Here are some pictures that Adam has texted me from when the group went into town for dinner tonight. Enjoy! He should be calling me soon and I will be able to share more details of the day.

Tuesday Update

Adam gave me a quick call before dinner tonight. The same construction teams did the same work today as yesterday. Adam said everyone is good and tired from working hard. They have been surprising the people down there with how much work they’ve already gotten done.

50 kids came to the camp today! Adam said they kept calling him pastor loco. Haha. Tonight they are showing the Children’s Jesus Film and have invited the kids back. Adam asked prayer for that time. On Thursday night they will show the regular Jesus Film and invite the families. Be praying for that time as well.

Not much of a specific update- but I think the next couple days will be about the same. Keep praying for health of the team- so far everyone is doing great.

Hope you have had a wonderful Tuesday.

Monday Update

I got a call right as I was getting ready to shut down the computer!

First of all- an update from last night after I talked to Adam. The team went up on the mountain to watch the sunset and have a time of worship. They spent about an hour and a half worshiping the Lord. He just opened up the time to everyone to read or quote scripture. He said that the Lord’s name was praised and it was an amazing time. He said to tell you parents that, “you have raised great kids who love Jesus.”

Today the group divided up into 5 different work groups for construction. One group of girls painted buildings. Another group of girls painted the fence and sanded tables around the camp. A group of guys dug up tree stumps and cut up trees. A group of girls and guys moved dirt piles so that sidewalks could be made. Adam’s group moved 3-4 tons of rock with wheel barrels so that cement could be laid and walls could be built. He said his muscles were pretty sore.

In the afternoon about 35 kids came to camp. They did crafts, chalk, basketball, and wrestling. Adam said the kids had a really good time.

Tomorrow will be the same schedule. Construction in the morning and kids in the afternoon. Tomorrow night they will invite the kids back to watch the Jesus Film. Pray that lots of kids come to camp tomorrow so they can receive this invitation and then bring back their family members! If any of you were at the missions conference this past year at CFC you know the impact the Jesus Film has had in countries all around the world. Pray for an impact in this little village by this film- and God’s word!

Adam says everyone is healthy and trying to drink enough water with all of the work they are doing! :) I’m glad I got to get an update to you guys today- even if it is a little late. Adam reminded me that in a week he will be home. I told him that felt like forever- but he seemed to think it was coming up fast. Haha. I guess their time is flying- and time only flies when you have fun right?
